Albany New York:
Working closely with Henry Meyerberg architect principal with the
Rockwell
Group In New York City, Lushington associates created a long range
strategic
plan calling for a new central library and several branches designed for
very different functions.
Belvedere/Tiburon, California:
The Belvedere/Tiburon library across the bay from San Francisco,
California
is a single story 12,000 square foot library constructed in the 1990šs.
It
includes a reading lounge with fireplace and closely spaced circulation
and
reference desks for easy referral and efficient staffing.
Berkeley, California:
The Berkeley Public Library scheduled to open in 2002 includes a large
addition to a historic 1920šs structure. It features multi story
services
and a very active clientele. Lushington Associates collaborated with
Gloria
Stockton on this project.
Byram, Connecticut:
The Schubert Library in Byram, Connecticut is a branch of the Greenwich
Library. A single staff member can monitor multiple functions in this
dramatically lighted 3000 square foot building.
Farmington, Connecticut:
The Farmington Connecticut Library opened in the 1980šs in a modern two
story 20,000 square foot building tucked into the side of a steep hill
with
childrenšs services and auditorium on the first floor and adult services
upstairs. A 15,000 square foot addition also programmed by Lushington
Associates in 2002. Architects Alec Frost for the older building and
Tuthill
and Wells for the newest addition.
Forestville, Connecticut:
A branch of the Bristol Public Library. This 6,000
square foot single story library was designed by Willis Mills, Jr. It
can be
operated by one staff member. It features a single central service desk
separating childrenšs from adult services.
Groton, Connecticut:
A berm building with efficient heating and cooling. 20,000 square feet
on
one floor with convenient parking. Designed to show the children's
services
at the entrance and a large central information
center close to the entrance and in front of a large book stack.
Designed in
the 1970šs by Arnold Gustavson under the close direction of Librarian
Gretchen Hammerstein. It was expanded by Tuthill and Wells architects in
1998. Lushington Associates was the consultant on both projects.
Madison, Connecticut:
An addition to a historic building. The design includes an indoor
central
plaza design with book stacks on three sides. Designed by Malmfeldt
Associates in the 1980.
Mystic/Noank Connecticut:
A period addition to an older building with interesting reader spaces
designed by Tuthill and Wells.
Newington, Connecticut:
A 1980šs addition to a 1940šs colonial style library. This library
features
an interesting array of media display fixtures and a second floor
children's
and meeting room complex. Designed by Kaestle and Boos.
Wallingford, Connecticut:
A 1980šs library designed by Arnold Gustavson to include children's and
adult services on a single floor with parking entrance technical
services
and auditorium below. Total 20,000 square feet.
Currently planning a large addition.
Washington, Connecticut:
A small three story 15,000 square foot expansion of an older library on
top
of a hill with the addition set below the original building and an
intricate
new entrance at the middle level of a steep hill.
Architects Charles King, Tuthill and Wells connected floors with
vertical
atrium access.
Bath, Maine:
A nicely matched 10,000 square foot addition to a beautiful Nineteenth
century library overlooking the river.
Camden, Maine:
An interesting underground addition to an older classical building set
on
top of a hill overlooking the harbor. The new bottom floor also has a
harbor
view and there is a nice story garden.
Kennebunk, Maine:
An elegant addition to a small classically designed library with
magnificent
reading rooms. designed By Tony Tappe in 1996.
Abington Massachusetts:
Handsome modern library designed by Tony Tappe in 1996 to appear as an
older
traditional style. 10,000 square feet on one floor with a large central
reading room with book stacks on each side and a large window at the far
end.
Attleboro, Massachusetts:
A 30,000 square foot library created by dismantl;ing two earlier
additions
and constructing a new integrated addition to a classical Nineteenth
Century
Library. Tappe Associates project.
Methuen, Massachusetts:
A 12,000 square foot addition to a 10,000 square foot early twentieth
century library designed in the classical style by Tappe Associates.
Worcester, Massachusetts:
A 50,000 square foot double addition bracketing a 100,000 square foot
modern
design dating to the 1970šs. Jeff Hoover of Tappe Associates. Design
includes a first floor coffee shop/bookstore and a boutique browsing
mall
design for the variety of first floor services The second floor is the
new
information center adult research library. Opened October 2001.
Keene, New Hampshire:
A 15,000 square floor addition to a library that had already been
expanded
from its original town house design. Tappe Associates 1999.
Montclair, New Jersey:
A floor was added to a 1920šs design and the renovation to the 50,000
square
floor building included a nice small coffee shop. Designed by the
Hillier
Group in 1998.
Bronxville, New York:
Peter Gisolfi designed a traditional 5,000 square foot addition to an
original 5,000 square foot modern Georgian design of the 19201s.
Middletown, New York:
A Richard Schoenhardt designed 15,000 square foot addition to a 5,000
square
foot converted railroad station. Opened in the 19901s.
Hanover, Pennsylvania:
Architecture Workshop is designing a wrap around 6,000 square foot
addition
to a small early Twentieth century design with a large stained glass
interior window centerpiece. To open in 2003.
Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania:
Hans Stein designed a large addition to a stone elementary school as a
public library.
King of Prussia, Pennsylvania:
A Jay Clough design (DWKCB Architects) for a municipal mall that
includes an
efficiently design library with a display units built into the
circulation
desk.
Wissahickon, Pennsylvania:
Bob Kelly of DWKCB architects created a beautiful easy to use library by
remodeling a roller skating rink.
York, Pa:
Rob Kinsley is designing a 10,000 square foot addition to a 15,00 square
foot 1920šs city library that will include a browsing atrium. To open in
2003.
Poland, Ohio:
A renovation and addition to a small library on the banks of a beautiful
river with an outdoor reading balcony.
